The title "Registered Dietitian", "Professional Dietitian", and "Dietitian" are protected by law -- through legislation -- so that only qualified practitioners, who have met education qualifications can use these titles. Remember, the term Nutritionist is not protected by law so anyone can use this title. A Nutritionist is a non-accredited title that may apply to somebody who has done a short course in nutrition or who has given themselves this title without any training. Registered Dietitians are uniquely qualified to translate the complex science of nutrition into practical everyday information about food. They can do this for individuals or groups of people to help promote nutritional wellbeing, treat disease and prevent nutrition related problems. A Dietitian is a health professional who has a Bachelor's degree or post-graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics, specialising in foods and nutrition, as well as a period of practical training in both hospital and community settings. Dietitians in the UK must be registered with the Health Professional Council (“HPC”). Registration ensures that Dietitians adhere to a strict set of standards covering areas of conduct, performance, proficiency and ethics and also maintain their continuing professional development to remain registered. For more information on the role of the HPC and to check if a Dietitian is registered visit www.hpc-uk.org For more information on the role of the Dietitian visit the British Dietetic Association website at www.bda.uk.com Benefits of seeing our Registered Dietitian
